ANC First Friday Homeschool

About Us
The Acton Nature Center Homeschool Group is welcoming to families from all walks of life who value hands-on learning in the great outdoors. We meet on the first Friday of each month from September through May, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each gathering features engaging presentations and activities led by local nature experts, designed to inspire curiosity and foster a love of science and the natural world. Our meetings include plenty of time for outdoor exploration and a picnic lunch, giving children and parents alike a chance to connect, learn, and enjoy nature together.
Our program is currently full. Please email anc.homeschool@gmail.com to be placed on the waitlist.
FAQ
What is a typical first Friday like?
Our program begins at 10 a.m. with a game for all age groups to help everyone get settled and connect. After the game, children split into their age groups for focused activities. The Enrichment Program, for ages 5 to 7, heads to the farmhouse for most of their activities, and their day wraps up at noon. Children ages 8 through high school are divided into smaller groups by age and rotate through different learning stations around the nature center. Everyone takes a break for a picnic lunch at noon, then there is one more learning rotation in the afternoon before the day ends.
What if I have children in different age groups?
Families have the flexibility to keep their children together throughout the day, or each child can be placed in their appropriate age group. Just let us know what works best for your family. If you have questions or would like to discuss options, please contact anc.homeschool@gmail.com for assistance.
What is the cost of the program?
The cost of the program is a $25 supply fee for each new student. Returning families do not need to repay the supply fee for students who have attended before.
What is the Enrichment Program?
The Enrichment Program is designed especially for our younger learners, ages 5 to 7. This half-day option runs from 10 a.m. to noon and provides hands-on, age-appropriate activities, such as a shared story time, art projects, and games. After noon, families are welcome to stay for a picnic lunch, or may head home. If there are older siblings attending the full day, they’re welcome to stay for the afternoon programming alongside their sibling.
